The FDA will be taking a proposal of its own.
The proposed approach is a “reminiscent of traditional sexual intercourse” (the “sexual encounter”) in which the patient is treated with a drug that would allow the patient to obtain a sexual arousal and desire that the man does not experience, such as sex. The drug would allow the patient to experience sexual arousal for sexual activity, whereas men would not be able to obtain sexual arousal for that purpose. The agency is also considering whether to allow men to use the drug to treat erectile dysfunction.
Viagra is an FDA-approved prescription medication that is used to treat erectile dysfunction and is approved for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction. (In addition, the FDA has also approved it for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia) and pulmonary hypertension.
The FDA will be working with partners to consider the proposal, and they will be making recommendations as well.
A proposal is expected to take three to four years, which could mean the agency is not sure how long the drug will be effective. This is because the drug could take time to take effect. And men may still be able to use it as long as they are sexually active.
“The FDA is not recommending a drug that would require a period of time to treat erectile dysfunction. D., the FDA’s chief executive officer. “Any use of Viagra that is made to treat erectile dysfunction could be considered to have positive effects on a man’s sexual performance.”
The proposal was submitted in response to a recent petition by the National Conference ofNPRs by a group of people who oppose the FDA’s use of Viagra. (The FDA has also issued a petition to the committee on behalf of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, which is responsible for the committee’s oversight.)
In a statement to the press, The American Medical Association, a trade association of drug-makers, said that “the use of Viagra for erectile dysfunction may pose a significant risk to public health,” and that the agency “may be reviewing the safety and efficacy of Viagra or other drugs for other uses”. The group also cited several examples of drugs that could interact with Viagra, such as blood pressure drugs.
According to the American Medical Association, a single dose of Viagra, which is used for a certain number of months, may not be effective for the first month or two of treatment. “If the drug is not taken as directed, a man who has taken it for a long period of time may have a harder time achieving and maintaining an erection,” the group wrote.
The group also cited a case in which a woman had been given Viagra for erectile dysfunction. The woman reportedly experienced a decrease in her sexual desire in the course of the treatment.
“In that case, the woman would not be able to engage in sexual intercourse for a minimum of 24 hours,” the group said. “However, if the woman were to take Viagra as instructed, she would not be able to engage in sexual intercourse for the 24 hours it would have taken to treat the condition.”
The group also cited a case in which a man with erectile dysfunction had a painful erection, and the man did not have a sexual relationship with the woman.
The group said that such cases would not be considered in the FDA’s review of drugs for erectile dysfunction and that the agency had been working on the issue until after the agency approved Viagra in September 1998. It is also unclear how long the agency will take to consider a drug’s potential efficacy and safety.
“In general, this is not a recommended drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and there is no indication that the drug will work for men who have had a negative sexual experience. The use of Viagra for erectile dysfunction may cause an inability to maintain an erection for a minimum of 24 hours,” the group wrote.
The group also pointed out that while there is not a “very positive” or “negative” sexual experience for men who use Viagra, it does appear to be a common sexual experience for a small percentage of men.
